Blue Forests is a registered Indonesian non-profit organization founded in 2001. Blue Forests envisions a linkage of healthy, resilient communities, flowing from upper to lower watershed and along the coast.
Blue Forests specializes in mangrove forest protection, restoration and sustainable use through field school, research, multi-stakeholders forum, and environmental education. The color blue in the name of our organization represents water, which connects the mangrove forests to the watersheds on land and to the sea.
Blue Forests has gone through two name changes over time, initially known as Yayasan Akar Rumput Laut (2001 – 2004) and then Mangrove Action Project-Indonesia (2004 – 2011).
