Guangxi Minzu University was founded in March 1952 as the Guangxi Branch of the Central Institute of Nationalities (now Minzu University of China). In February 1953, it was renamed Guangxi Institute of Nationalities, and in June 1958, it was renamed Guangxi University of Nationalities. In February 2006, it was renamed Guangxi Minzu University. The university is a jointly-built institution by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission and the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
