Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) Foundation Thailand is the country’s first registered non-profit environmental organisation focused on food rescue and hunger relief. Founded in 2016 by Bo H. Holmgreen, SOS was born from the urgent need to redistribute surplus quality food to underserved communities.
Operating seven days a week, SOS collects surplus food from hotels, restaurants, retailers, and food producers and delivers it to vulnerable groups before the day ends. This initiative not only addresses food insecurity but also significantly reduces methane emissions from food waste, contributing to climate change mitigation.
Key programmes include:
- Food Rescue Program: Daily surplus food collection and redistribution to vulnerable communities.
- Rescue Farm Program: Rescuing and distributing off-spec fresh produce.
- Healthy School Meal Program: Supplying nutritious ingredients to childcare centres and monitoring children’s growth.
- Rescue Kitchen Program: Community-driven cooking program using rescued ingredients.
SOS is a certified member of The Global FoodBanking Network and a designated Public Benefit Organisation by Thailand’s Ministry of Social Development and Human Security.
